Lares is a proof of concept for a new kind of operating system for physical space. The name comes from the Roman household gods — the lares were the unseen presences that kept a home running. The project asks: what if your home had a model of itself?
The simulation models the rooms, devices, and occupancy patterns of a house and gives a generative AI assistant access to that model. The assistant can reason about the state of the home — not just respond to commands — and suggest, anticipate, and explain in natural language.
Built in under 48 hours. Two of five hackathon prizes awarded: Google DeepMind and Amazon AWS.
