The installation created was in response to a brief that asked for a new interactive at the 'myki' centre, at Melbourne's Southern Cross station. The centre was set up to inform the public of a new form of ticketing, to be introduced to Melbourne's public transport sector in 2007. The interactive projection had to meet the criteria of being informative - successfully demonstrating the five key features of the card, such as how it was used, where it could be used and what it replaced - whilst also being a playful, piece that could be used by several people at any one time.
A large, playful animation depicted the different forms of transport that the new ticketing system worked across, encouraging the user to step up and discover more about the 'myki' card. Once the interactive was triggered, playful, free-form lines could be drawn by the user dragging their hand across the screen, which in turn generated random icons. Touching these icons triggered one of five interactive games. Multi touch gesture technology meant that several people could gather around the piece without the single-user limitations of traditional touch screen technology. |
